Welcome

At Pimlico Academy Sixth Form, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to excel academically, develop as an individual and prepare confidently for life beyond school.

Our broad and ambitious curriculum enables students to pursue subjects they are passionate about while keeping future pathways open. Alongside outstanding teaching, students benefit from a rich programme of opportunities designed to stretch, challenge and inspire. Our Scholars Programme provides academic enrichment for those aspiring to the most competitive university courses, while a comprehensive university preparation programme begins from the very start of Year 12, ensuring students are exceptionally well prepared for applications to leading universities, apprenticeships and future careers.

We know that success is built on more than academic achievement alone. That is why we provide exceptional pastoral care, supporting every student through the challenges and opportunities of sixth form life. Through personalised guidance, enrichment activities, leadership opportunities and a strong sense of community, students develop the confidence, resilience and character needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our students leave Pimlico Academy Sixth Form with outstanding qualifications, a clear sense of purpose and the skills to make a meaningful contribution to society. Whether their next step is university, an apprenticeship or the workplace, they do so equipped to succeed and ready to realise their ambitions.

Welcome from our Head of Sixth Form

I am delighted to welcome you to Pimlico Academy Sixth Form, where we are committed to ensuring that every student achieves their ambitions and fulfils their potential.

Our distinctive sixth form experience combines academic excellence with exceptional opportunities beyond the classroom. Alongside our broad curriculum, students benefit from a rich enrichment programme, outstanding pastoral care and personalised careers guidance. More than half of our students complete the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, take part in our Scholars Programme, contribute to school productions and engage in a wide range of leadership and enrichment opportunities.

At Pimlico Academy, we take great pride in supporting each student as an individual, helping them secure the university places, apprenticeships and career pathways that best match their aspirations. Students value the strong sense of community and the dedicated guidance they receive throughout their Key Stage 5 journey, enabling them to flourish both academically and personally.

We are immensely proud of the young people and community we serve. Year after year, our students achieve outstanding A Level results and leave us with the confidence, character and ambition to make a positive impact on the world around them.

Pastoral Care

In the Sixth Form we offer a bespoke programme of pastoral support to our students. There is a team of staff dedicated to effectively supporting students throughout their time in the Sixth Form.

Furthermore, to ensure that the needs of each individual student are met, students are placed in tutor groups. Our Sixth Form tutors have been specifically selected due to their knowledge and experience and are an invaluable part of our Sixth Form Team. Tutors work closely with students over the course of their two years to support them academically, socially and with their next steps in their lives and careers. Tutors play an active role in each student’s Sixth Form journey; they are the first port of call for any concerns and     support, and they ensure that each student is achieving their potential in every aspect of Sixth Form life.

There is one tutor session at the start of each day, as well as a weekly assembly for both Year 12 and Year 13. These sessions allow the tutor to check on student wellbeing and progress. They are also a crucial time when key aspects of Sixth Form life are discussed including UCAS applications, study skills and careers guidance.

Parental involvement is key to the progress that students make in the Sixth Form. In addition to parents evenings, there is a Sixth Form Information Evening held early in the academic year to prepare parents for what to expect from Sixth Form as well as to provide advice and ideas on how to best support students at home.

Sixth Form Life

Academic:

  • The Pimlico Academy Sixth Form Programme prioritises academic opportunities for students, both within their lessons and beyond the taught curriculum. Our small class sizes ensure that teachers are able to provide high levels of individual support to students. We have also purchased an AI-powered online learning platform, UpLearn, for students to help support them in their independent study. Work in class is then supplemented by a range of supercurricular opportunities and our Enrichment programme.

Co-Curricular:

  • While we prioritise academic opportunities, we also understand that there is far more that students can achieve during their time in our Sixth Form. Therefore, another significant component of the Pimlico Academy Sixth Form Programme is our co-curricular offer with a myriad of  opportunities provided for students to join and lead clubs.

Higher Education & Careers:

  • We do not view our sixth form experience as only being a two year period; rather, it is a journey from Year 11 through to future careers and adult life. As such, we place significant value on our higher  education and careers  support with a dedicated team of experienced members of staff supporting students throughout their time in our Sixth Form.
  • Ensuring that students are provided with the best guidance while writing their UCAS applications is just one way in which we support students. As a result of this support, a high number of students are successful in applying to, and being accepted into, the most prestigious universities, including Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. We also provide students with intensive support with applications to top degree apprenticeships, and all students go through a comprehensive careers curriculum as part of their time at the school.

Leadership:

  • The opportunity to develop students’ understanding and experience of leadership is a further element that is important in our Sixth Form Programme. Students are given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills by becoming part of the School Council or standing to be School Captain or a House Captain. In addition, further opportunities are given which enable Sixth Formers to provide support and mentorship to their younger peers.
